O-Mega Zen is concentrated in regions that require a high degree of electrical activity, DHA (Decosahexaenoic Acid) is important for signal transmission in the brain, eye and nervous systems. It is highly recommended for pregnant mothers and young children, as DHA is a critical building block of young brain cells. DHA is the most abundant omega-3 long chain fatty acid in breast milk and studies show that breast-fed babies have IQ advantages over babies fed formula without DHA. In Europe and Scandinavia, DHA is given to women considering pregnancy and also to lactating mothers. European pre-term infant formulas now contain DHA, while U.S. formulas do not. Low levels of DHA have been linked with insufficient brain and vision development in infants, hyperactivity, dyslexia, attention deficit disorders (ADD), depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, alzheimer's disease, insomnia, stress, and the worsening of schizophrenia. On the other hand, DHA supplementation has been shown to improve all of the conditions listed above, and more.

Normally DHA is found only in fish and fish oils, along with some eggs and other animal products, and we have been searching for a reliable vegan alternative. Typically, the most common vegetarian source of omega-3 fatty acids is flax seed oil or hempseed oil. These short-chain, seed-based, omega-3 fatty acids are the precursor to the long-chain omega-3 DHA. However, flax seed oil is an imperfect solution because it is converted into DHA at varying rates in different people. Therefore, some vegetarians, vegans, and/or raw-foodists do not produce enough long-chain omega-3 DHA to meet brain requirements.

The oil for O-Mega-Zen3 DHA is derived from a marine microalgae called Schizochytrium sp. This is a golden marine algaeWe consider this to be the "champagne" of omega-3 oils. The oil, as present in the capsule, has a small amount of vitamine E, i.e. 1% and about 15 mg of EPA. According to the recent independent testing that is done, this product has a very low oxidation value at present and up to the expiration date as long as it is not subject to high heat and humidity. It is also very low, if not non-existent, in terms of any type of bacterial content, i.e. e-coli or any chemicals. These were basically shown to be at virtually undetectable levels per recent independent testing.

It is encapsulated in vegicaps and is a completely vegan product. DHA is endorsed by Dr. Gabriel Cousens, who has written about DHA in the new edition of his book Conscious Eating. The properties of DHA are also discussed in Udo Erasmus book Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill. The recommended dosage is one 350 mg. capsule per day.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has allowed the following statements on the O-Mega-Zen3 label:"Omega-3s such as EPA and DHA have been the subject of considerable scientific research of their beneficial effects in terms of cardiovascular system, central nervous system and other major bodily systems." In addition, the FDA classifies the DHA oil used in O-Mega-Zen3 as a Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) food ingredient.

which produces a certain percentage of DHA. This is a Pacific algae which is originally taken from an area near San Diego and then grown in fermentation tanks under low salinity conditions. This is a single cell algae with 40-60% lipid content including the DHA and it typically known, as mentioned above, as a Pacific golden marine algae.
